Gout Diet: Foods to Eat with Gout

When you suffer from a medical condition called gout, then the diet is a vital component of the disease’s management and treatment.  This is because many foods contain purines.  Purines, once metabolized or broken down produce uric acid as the by-product.  When the uric acid levels reach peak levels, then this could lead to the formation of tiny uric acid crystals that lodge in the joints and causing inflammation or what is commonly known as gout. And so, the foods to eat with gout are an integral part of the gout treatment.

Foods to Eat with GoutAgain, knowing the foods to eat with gout is crucial to avoid any painful gout attacks or flare ups that can happen if the uric acid levels shoot up due to ingesting foods that are rich in purines.  So if you don’t want this to happen, then one should eat foods that are low in purines and avoid foods high in purine content.

Basically, a low purine diet is the prescribed diet for those who suffer from gout to help control the uric acid levels in the blood.  This, along with the medication prescribed by the doctor makes up an effective gout management.  But of course, religious compliance is crucial for those who suffer from gout disease.

When you choose fish and seafood, be sure that you exclude those that are rich in purines such as scallops, mussels, herring, anchovies and salmon to name some.  Furthermore, alcoholic beverages particularly beer is rich in purines so these are greatly avoided.  As for the beverages, it is better that you load up on fruits juices particularly cherry fruit juice.
